Our good friend, Mustang, celebrated his first birthday on Friday!  We were so glad we were able to celebrate with him.

What a great milestone, for both baby and parents!  He’s become such a big boy!  I love being able to pick Cowgirl’s (his mom) brain for what to expect, since she goes through everything just before we do.  Not to mention she is one of the nicest people I know – so spending time with them is a lot of fun.

Here’s the rest of the crew – everyone is looking so adorable!  EZ E (middle) and his parents are moving away soon – very sad!  But it is exciting for them!  We are making more mom friends, as I want to formalize a play group when I get back home in August.

Happy birthday, Mustang!  Here’s to many more fun filled years!

7 months!!!

Dear Baby J –

Yesterday you turned seven months!  I can’t believe you are closer to being 1 year old than not!  Time has really flown by.

You are a truly amazing little dude.  You are so aware these days – when I talk or sing to you, I can see you watching my mouth. When you are with Boom and I, you love to squeak and tell stories.  You are not so vocal around others, yet.

You are getting very good at sitting up and you are really trying to crawl!  You can get up on all fours, move your legs forward, but you still need to figure out what to do with your arms, so then you plop down on your belly.  Sometimes you will do this a couple times in a row, and you do indeed move forward.  A lot of times you will get up on all fours and rock back and forth.  Sometimes you get up on your toes and your hands – very impressive.

You also like to lay on your side – and sometimes to help balance, you will put one or both legs in the air.  It is so adorable – you look like a centerfold!  You assumed the position at music class and everyone was very impressed.

You continue to be a good sleeper.  Sometimes you like to get up earlier than I would like, but most times we don’t really have to get you out of your crib until close to 7am.  Your naps have been good as well – still in transition from 3 naps to 2 – the past few days have been pretty consistent:  nap #1 from 8am – 10am, nap #2 from 12noon – 2pm, then it is a toss up if you will take a 3rd short nap around 4pm.  Then to bed around 7pm.

We went to our first 1st birthday party this past Friday – even though it was not your bday, I feel like it is a milestone to go to the first on with you.  Your good buddy Mustang (formerly known as Little C) turned one – all the peeps from story time were there so you got to see a lot of your friends.

You are an amazing eater!  Maria, the babysitter, was so impressed that you eat so well – opening up your mouth big, not dribbling much onto your bib, drinking water from a cup.  You  seem to be processing bananas better, which is good since you like them so much.  I haven’t tried to introduce much fruit yet, as the ones that I have tried (pear and peach) did not agree with you.  You still are one mainly green and orange foods: broccoli, zucchini, peas, sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash; and some white foods: parsnip and cauliflower.  You are just a health nut!  I’ve also been giving you some baby puffs to introduce a different sort of texture.  You like them ok – you tried the Mum-Mums today for the first time and really liked them!

You are getting so big!  Our friend / interior designer saw your yesterday and said 1) that you were lengthening out, and 2) that you were starting to look more like me!  YAY!  Me – 1; Boom – 1,000,000.  At least someone thinks you look like me.  Usually the comments are all, the baby is Boom’s mini-me, I really see a lot of Boom in baby, blah blah blah…

You love getting to see Dada.  He is your bestest friend.  On the weekends, you tend to not nap as well, and my theory is that you just want to be awake to hang out with Dada.  You are not being quite so stingy with your giggles and laughter.  Lots of times it is Dada that can get those laughs out of you.  I love love LOVE hearing you laugh – it is so adorable!

You are fearless – you go to strangers without crying and I hope we can keep that up.  I am not sure when separation anxiety is supposed to set in, but I really want to avoid it if at all possible.

I have so much fun with you – I can’t even think of a time this past month that you were just inconsolable or really fussy.

I love you so much!  Thanks for being such an amazing little guy.  Everyday I am incredibly thankful that I am your mumsie.

Love, Mummy

Baby J already has a girlfriend!  Little L is one of the few little gals we see on a regular basis – it is so cute as JJ and Little L recognize each other!  We take music class on Fridays together, and usually get together at least one other time during the week.

Here they are sharing a moment at the Children’s Museum:

She is just a couple months older than JJ – and JJ doesn’t mind – he likes older ladies!

Doesn’t Little L have the best cheeks ever?!  I am glad that she also recognizes me and lets me kiss and pinch those cheeks of hers!

I love that Baby J already has friends – I hope we all remain friends for a long time – how amazing would that be to say you’ve been friends with someone since birth!  We met C and C when Baby J was only 8 weeks old – and it has been great getting together with them and also learning about what is to come, as C is 5 months older than Baby J.

Monday, Baby J and I were at the park with C and C, and Yarbs met us with her fancy-schmancy camera.  It really does take amazing photos (or perhaps that is the photographer?).

Boys are naturally so rough!  This was taken right after JJ grabbed little C’s cheek.  But after a quick hug from his mom, he was just fine, honest! (Also really interesting to see what a difference 5 months makes right now – Baby J is still an infant, while Little C is looking more like a little boy.  In a year from now, 5 months won’t be any big deal at all!)

… no more tears – all smiles!  What a cutie!

I did not manipulate the photo above at all – and look how amazing it is!  Love how little C is in focus and everything else is blurry.  and with the shade, the lighting is awesome, so the colors totally pop!

It can also take really great action photos:

Weeeeeee!  JJ loves to swing, and Yarbs was able to put her camera on the athletic setting and take a whole bunch of action shots.  Love his adorable mug, and how happy and excited he looks!

I don’t think I am ready to invest in a fancy camera – but maybe I’ll see if I can borrow Yarbs’ every now and again, as I am just really blown away by the amazing photos!  I guess it does help that she had some really cute subjects!

Happy Father’s Day!

Yesterday we celebrated Boom’s first father’s day.  Boom is an awesome father and hubby!  Little Baby J and I are very lucky.

We also lowered JJ’s crib – maybe a little early, but he is an active boy and it’s definitely better to be safe than sorry.  It seems like JJ is just growing and growing – I just don’t want him to grow up too fast.

Anyway, Boom, Baby J and I love you very, very much!!!

Sittin’ Pretty

It is amazing how far Baby J has come in just 6 1/2 months… I guess, really, it is amazing how babies in general develop into little people.

I mean, what a baby:

And look at him now:

He can sit, unassisted and not in the tripod position, for about 10-20 seconds!  I am quite impressed.

I think he is going through a growth spurt, as most babies do around 6 months, as he is eating and sleeping like a champ.  I am sooo glad he is a good sleeper – one of our mommy friends is having to take her (nearly) 1 year old to the sleep center at Texas Children’s Hospital because he is such a poor sleeper.  Which stinks – for both baby and mommy – everyone is tired!

I can tell he can understand me when I talk about a some thing:  eat, milk, jump, Dada, Ruby B, to name a few.  Which is nice.  I am fully expecting him to answer me someday soon when I am on one of my many rambling one-sided conversations that I engage him in daily.

Thanks and Perfect Form!

Thanks, everyone, for the comments on my last entry!  Many thanks to Rachel at One Pretty Thing for tweeting about my freebie (I go there daily for projects, printables and inspiration!)!

I love getting free printables from around blogland (so many good ones to be had!), so I will now try to put up some of my own printables for others to enjoy.  The next one will be soon – and I’ll try to put it up as a PDF (non-personalized) so that anyone can just get it, if they want.

Baby J is well on his way to crawling.  He is able to get up on all fours / hands and knees, but just doesn’t seem to know what to do once he is there.  He rocks back and forth, but then falls, or scooches backwards – as his arms are pushing and his legs don’t know what to do.

Here he is in perfect push up position (Johnny M from Seals would be so proud!):

We spend lots of time on our tummies, so JJ can have lots of time to practice.  I try to practice sitting up with JJ as well, but he doesn’t seem to be that interested in that, and always ends up on his back or tummy when we start out sitting.

None of our other mommy friend’s kids were ever this close to crawling this early.  I wonder if my daily (well, maybe every other day) baby yoga regimen has anything to do with it?  or maybe it was like his first teeth – just something that happens (and those were on the early side – just shy of 6 months they appeared!).

I guess I’d like to take a little credit for my amazing son, but I am not sure that I can.  He’s already a calmer, more laid back person than me!
